As someone who enjoys observing, I noticed early on, even as a student, that various systems of practice and different types of exercises manifest in different postures. After becoming a teacher, I began to realize that the sequence of movements is particularly important to me. After my 15th year of teaching, I ventured into the world of equipment-based Pilates and was amazed, especially by how it improved joint stability, the stretching and activation of individual muscle groups, and the final posture—rather than being bulky, it was elongated, bringing me back to my pre-pregnancy body shape.
Having experienced multiple pregnancies, I was surprised to feel a deep, focused contraction in my body for the first time. The activation of my muscles enhanced my concentration, which was an unexpected outcome. Through the training process, I rediscovered my body and the changes in its various layers. The principles and sequence of equipment Pilates guided my body back to its original form after each practice. The tension that arises and the relationships between the agonist, antagonist, and synergist muscles were clear. Using the machine helped me avoid compensation and unnecessary force, while activating the core with proper breathing techniques to ensure efficient practice.
Ultimately, the practice is about repair. Due to heart and knee issues, I’m unable to run or jump, but Pilates equipment allows me to jump safely, with controlled heart rate management. It’s an effective and restorative practice that I look forward to sharing with you.
